Question: Do you give classes? Do you sell glass & supplies?
Answer: No, we are commission work only. Please contact the following for classes and to
purchase glass and supplies. (HELP CENTER)
Question: Where can I find your prices for glass work?
Answer: Every job is individual. Art Johnson will be glad to speak with you about your
request, and in most cases, travel to your home or business to measure and size up the
situation prior to giving a quote.
Many quotes can be given over the phone, but some may not.
Question: What is dichroic glass?
Answer: Dichroic glass is so special (and more expensive than just clear glass. The
definition of dichroic glass:
The word "dichroic", pronounced Dye-Cro-Ick, is derived from two Greek roots, "di" for two
and "chroma" for color. So "dichroic" literally means "two-colored."
You may hear dichroic glass referred to as "dichro" for short or even very rarely as
"chameleon glass". You may also hear it incorrectly referred to as dichronic, dichrotic,
dicroic, dicromic, diachronic and dichryllic just to name a few. Another misconception is
that dichroic glass refers to the entire fused glass movement. Though fused glass or warm
glass may incorporate dichroic glass; doing so is not a requirement. Dichroic glass is a
design element that can be used in glass blowing, bead making and of course glass fusing.
Question: How long have you been working in the glass field?
Answer: Art has been educated and hands on since the time when Disney World was built.
He lived in Florida with his Uncles who built everything in glass for their opening. To
answer your question, over 30 plus years experience!! No wonder he is award winning!
Question: Do you use acid for etch glass work, or how do you do it?
Answer: All custom carved art work is applied to the rubber stencil on the glass and
carefully and artistically the design is cut by blade ...all by hand. Art prefers to use the
sandblasting technique for his glass work, because it can give you a three dimensional
effect in most cases, and he can add his artistic changes at that time.
Question: What are all the things you can do in decorative glass?
Answer: Stained Glass, Cast Glass, Carved (Sandblasted) Glass.
Works of Art Johnson, Inc. also are proudly displays an abundance of dichroic jewelry
(primarily made by Art's wife, Lori.) These items include but not limited to earrings,
pendants, keychains, plates, platters, door knobs, decorative tiles, purse hangers, bottle
stoppers, letter openers, bottles flattened or slumped, candle sleeves, holders, Marlin and
Sailfish pieces, bracelets, rings, pins... just about anything is possible!
Question: What unique glass creations can you offer to someone who is remodeling
their home or business?
Answer: Very popular right now are SINK BOWLS with matching counter tops, glass
shelves with custom artwork, partition windows or panels that separate rooms being casted
or custom carved designs...casted shower enclosures with custom textures, and this can
apply to windows, front doors, etc. Art's underwater scenes using the sandblasting
technique is the art glass that is requested the most. Not to leave out, though, is the very
classy and elegant custom cluster bevel windows, transums, sidelites, front doors,
cabinets, and more in the stained glass division.
Question: Do you repair stained glass doors, windows, pieces?
Answer: Time permitting, yes. Many people in the glass industry do not. We also highly
recommend our associate LORETTA (310) 318-0775 for stained glass repairs. She is an
expert in this field and we highly recommend her.
Question: Is this a family owned business?
Answer: Yes. Occasionally Art has been so busy that he has contemplated expanding, but
chosen not to. Their business is very busy with referrals from their physical location on
Pacific Coast Hwy, contractors, designers, other glaziers, glass companies... and the list
goes on.
Question: What glass piece or creation did you enjoy making the most?
Answer: There isn't really just one. Later Art will have more photos on this website to show
the diversity in his talent, and you can choose what YOUR favorite is... and email us.
